Good evening, I’m Charlie Leduff, and this is no bullshit. Jocelyn Benson, Abdul El-Sayed, Elie Savitt, the new faces of the corrupt Wayne County Democratic machine, and the boss of that machine, former Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan. It’s a bunch of nonsense.

Where did they all come from? It begins with an incident in 2015 when Duggan’s mistress, Dr. Sonia Hassan, recommended Abdul El-Sayed to head Detroit’s health department, despite the fact that he had no real world experience, and he was just a paper doctor. And to return the favor, El-Sayed’s department funneled hundreds of thousands of the public’s dollars in a bankrupt city to the mistress’s nonprofit. Then after just 16 months, El-Sayed got gone, and the scandal exploded.

The mayor’s office gave preferential treatment to the program run by the woman Duggan is accused of having a relationship with. Duggan’s chief development officer at the time, Ryan Friedrichs, ordered city hall staff to delete the evidence. Friedrichs is now the chief lobbyist for that monster data center nobody wants.

And his wife, Jocelyn Benson, she wants to be your governor. Now Benson says she won’t earn a nickel from that data center, but that’s just a lie. Duggan’s senior legal counsel at the time, Elie Savitt, tried to get the investigators to bury the report over the mistress and the money.

And then Attorney General Dana Netzel, another longtime crony from the Wayne County machine headed by Mike Duggan, made the whole episode go away. And now Savitt wants to be your attorney general. El-Sayed also disappeared for a few years doing podcasts and whatnot, only to resurface and be named the chief of the Wayne County Health Department.

Again, with little experience. His patron, Osama Siblani, a Lebanese born, Dearborn based political rainmaker. Now, Siblani believes that Hezbollah and Hamas are freedom fighters and refuses to back away from his words.

El-Sayed, on the other hand, deleted years of crazy social media posts. And now that he wants to be your senator, he’s saying the exact opposite things. I believe that we do need to defund the police.

It amazes me in the city of Detroit, Wayne County, uh, it’s 2026. And the democratic party in Michigan has never found a way for a black person to make it to the top of the ticket that really bothers me.

Um, especially when you look at the, the, the makeup, um, you know, Jocelyn Benson, Abdul, you know, Hey, feel how you feel. Um, but my disillusionment is with the fact that, uh, some very talented, um, black politicians have never made it to the top of the ticket for the democratic party of Michigan. Uh, that’s an indictment.

And what do you mean type of ticket? Like governor, governor, Senator? Yes. Yes. Never.

Not that I’m aware of in my lifetime, uh, that have, uh, I mean, you look at, uh, your guest is running for secretary of state. But is he, is he really running number one? And I don’t say that as a pejorative against him, but the reality is why wasn’t he the odds on favorite being Gretchen Whitmer’s Lieutenant governor to have the first crack at it. They wield and deal.

And they, they, they willed him down to run for secretary of state because the party’s not going back here. Well, the parties wasn’t going back. Right.

No, the governor, his boss, the one who chose him didn’t back. So for me, uh, you know, looking through all the BS and just looking at, you know, what the politics of Michigan and Detroit and particularly the democratic party has been, uh, to me, it is an indictment. Now I’m a vote my interest, but I, I, I would be less than, well, I guess officially Charlie, I’m a pundit.

So as a pundit, uh, it pisses me off. Well, to know when the Republicans have nominated a black man to the top of the ticket, John James, have you listened to anything he’s offering? All skin folk and kin folk. Now that’s true, but you know, So from that standpoint, but that to me, that makes it even that much more damnable for the Democrats that the Republican party, uh, would get behind, uh, a person of color, um, regardless of his politics.

And he would ascend to the top of the ticket. As a matter of fact, Bill Lucas, um, ran for governor before, there’ll be way, we’re going way back. Jesus, Bill Lucas.

But, but, but let’s think about it though. Charlie, um, as regressive as the Republican party has been towards, um, black people, towards women, uh, towards immigrants. Um, it is damnable that the Republican party has a black at the top of the ticket and we don’t have a black for Senate.

We don’t have a black for governor. And until now, and not the word you didn’t, you didn’t have a black Congress person here. Absolutely.

Um, till Donovan McKinney, uh, who, you know, obviously the way the political makeup is in Detroit, he will be, um, the Congress person elect, uh, but that, that, that says a lot about, um, the investment. And this is why a lot of black people sit it out because, um, and the democratic party is going to have to swallow hard. They just are a beneficiaries of a, of a president that as a preacher, I’m trying not to cuss.

I love Jesus, but I cuss a little bit. I just don’t do it publicly. Um, but they’re beneficiaries of a, of a, of a president that’s really screwed this country up.

Uh, otherwise, oh, hell yeah. Tell me how hell, um, we’re in a war, uh, that we started. That we don’t know how the hell to get out of it.

Do you know the price of gas? $6 a gallon for a diesel in the last five days. So it’s what? Down for 50. I read in the New York times yesterday that before the war, 20 million barrels were coming out of the middle East.

Okay. And as at the end of the first September by the calculation, it’s 17 million. So gas fell.

So maybe, I don’t know. They didn’t do a good job selling me that war, but maybe Trump, you don’t give a fuck if they have Congress or not. Like we’re going to, we’re going to take care of this Iran problem.

He just wants his name on a Kennedy center. I mean, important. That doesn’t shit.

Doesn’t bother me. Do you know, by the way, before I forget today is the official. Finally, after 23 years, we’ve officially withdrawn from Iraq.

We’re building our first steel plants in 50 years. That was announced. Yeah.

We’re building chip factories. Wages are actually going up despite inflation and the tariffs. But look at the, look at the number of, and I, and I’m speaking, I’ve just given no, no, empirical from the standpoint in, in the macro, but for my community, close to 500,000 black women are unemployed now under this administration.

So it’s easier to raise wages when you’re paying fewer people. It’s just mad. I’ll go like this though.

You go. A lot of that has to do with slimming down the federal government, those bureaucratic jobs. We bring in real jobs like chip manufacturing, steel manufacturing.

I better jobs. I get that. But at, at whose expense and at what pace? Because again, from, from the, from being a black man.

Yeah. Uh, from Detroit, from Detroit, uh, in a predominantly black city. Yeah.

And to know that black women are the most educated. This is empirical. So we’re going to empirical.

They are the leading group of entrepreneurs in the country. And then from a federal government standpoint, the very employees that were targeted through those disproportionately affected black and Brown women. So I’m looking at it.

Like let’s get real jobs that create wealth for educated women of color. Yeah. But, but now we got to do it.

No, we got to do it at some point because as a black person from Detroit, you will know that the democratic president, bill Clinton and the Republicans in Congress gave us NAFTA, but, and that’s what really us. No, we need it back. So at some point we got to be getting this shit back.

But two things can be true at one time. Yes, that’s true. So now you have this very divisive, racist, white nationalists, Christian nationalists, which means white nationalists administration that now any qualified black person, they’re our product of DEI.

Yes. So now you say the Detroit black woman just spoke up and you’re talking all over. And I’m going to say this, if I’m an educated black woman and I’ve spent the kind of money that it takes to get an education, I don’t want to work in your damn chip factory.

I don’t want to work in anybody’s factory. I want my desk job that I went to school for the government or like, you know, in a law firm, either one. But I don’t want to be in the chip factory or the data center.

Well, why couldn’t you work in an office in the chip factory? Maybe I could. Maybe you could. But again, the government and where is the chip does not create wealth.

Because if it’s in Utah, it doesn’t help me and people who look like me, if it’s not in the right place. Well, I hope you’re all listening. But you just spoke of debt.

Yeah. The highest amount of debt that this country has ever been in. Yeah.

Has been under number forty five and number forty seven. Donald John Trump. You forgot Biden, bro.

Oh, no. You forgot. You forgot how it by it rocketed.

But proportionally, no one has blown up the deficit like Donald John Trump. I would say this. You if you take out covid right.

2020 and those checks that it really explode under Biden for no reason. And again, if we look at the price of gas adjusted for inflation. Under Biden.

I forget the date. Twenty two or twenty three. Gas hit a peak of five eighty five.

There was no war. So you explain to me like I remember. The last administration, too, and I do not want to go back to that shit.

But also devastating. Look at what Biden inherited. He inherited the after situation that Donald John Trump left us in because number one, he ignored covid.

The idiot didn’t have enough sense to take credit for the covid vaccine that really saved. I mean, this country. No, did not.

That’s empirical data. It it didn’t save anybody but old people. It would save me.

You know what I mean? So I thought I’ll fall into the vulnerable population. Well, the studies this. OK, you have comorbidities.

Absolutely. So for me, hell, if it didn’t save the world, save my life. So I’ll give him credit for that.

He doesn’t have a short job, but he doesn’t have a good sense. But that’s a Democratic proposition. I mean, but he had a good sense to pour piss out of boot if the direction said turn it over.

Yes, it is. You know, we put it through A.I. What we got, Mark? OK, now the biggest news organization is WDIV at the 11 o’clock news. OK.

And during football season, because that’s the biggest show of Sunday Night Football in America, their their peak listening viewership is 192, 192,000 viewers. The no bullshit news hour is 210,000 viewers. OK, now we got another one when football’s off the air.

That will be March, April, May, June, July or half the year. We’re between 135 and 210, and they’re between 107 and 127. Wow.

So by far. So I look this up. Yeah, yeah.

What does Channel four charge for advertising between? Let’s just do the peak number, the peak number. Ten. Oh, by the way, their number is averaged over the week, seven days average.

They charge up to, according to statistics provided by advertising agencies online. So I’m not an expert. Up to ten thousand dollars for a 30 second commercial.

Ten for a 30 second spot. Thirty second. Now we do minute spot like what that do the math.

And remember, TV is OK. So you’re watching Sunday Night Football, right? And you had too many Bud Lights and you pass out. And the TV is still on.

That counts as somebody watching. Right here. You got to go find us.

Yeah. So I think advertisers, you got to get your head out of your ass. You think in the old way is TV, but that’s not how it works anymore.

Oh, absolutely. Do you watch local news? Well, if I’m on it. Check yourself out.

Yeah, yeah. And we don’t take gambling advertising. You know, the independent media is really the key to getting this country back on track, because you figure that, Charlie, I’m sure, you know, the numbers about 15 percent of corporate controls, about 85 percent of the news content that we see.

So when you look at those kind of numbers, I mean, it is no wonder why this country is the trajectory is on, arguably, whether you support Trump or not, whether you Democrat, Republican, nobody can say to this country is going in the right direction. No, it hasn’t been for before. A long time.

Again, a long time going back to. The invasion of Iran for no fucking made up, made up reasons. I don’t know, you know, this has been quite a year because, you know, 9-11, the 25th anniversary.

Right. And I have those recollections. Yeah.

And then. Well, we’re drawing today and I went to Iraq with the Marines. I have those recollections and yeah, it’s just been completely fucked.

Doesn’t matter. But Charlie’s always follow the money. If it if you use a multimillion dollar Patriot missile to shoot down a twenty thousand dollar drone, it’s mad.

Yeah, it’s mad. But we do learn from it, don’t we? Have we? Then we go back to this election. Now, look, we got where’s where’s Benson from? I forget, like Connecticut or something.

Yeah, something like that. And Savage from New York. Like we’re that stupid that you take rich people, you import them, you implant them on us.

I mean, because that goes to economic empowerment as well for the metro Detroit area. If the jobs are here. Yet you look at the the socioeconomic status of your workers or your your pool of workers and they can’t get to the damn job or if the buses aren’t running on time and they’re late and they get fired from the job, it’s a perpetual cycle.

You know, people talk about democratic socialism. You know, I mean, all these damn buzzwords that people are using. They really don’t make sense.

They don’t make math sense at all. Nobody’s digging into it. Why don’t you come on? I’ll let you say whatever you want.

Sunday morning, 7.30 in the morning. People are getting ready to go to church. But no, a bunch of people are exiting an illicit speakeasy strip club or whatever it is.

House of Ill-Repute. Yeah, the House of Ill-Repute. And seven are shot, three dead on the lawn.

It’s a mess. And this is what we hear from Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison. Since the beginning of this year, we have had seven calls per service to this address.

I will let you know also that this address is not new to the Detroit Police Department. That I also had an investigation into this address as well. I won’t go into that.

But I can tell you that regardless of what was occurring in this particular location, that no one deserves to have their life ended or be wounded by gun violence. Well, what? There’s a lot going on there. Okay, let’s set the stage.

Let’s do that. And then the mayor comes to the scene of a tragedy where naturally you’re not going to speak of the brewing scandal, corruption scandal, because it would just be wrong. It would be wrong for a reporter at a death scene.

Oh, absolutely. To be grilling her on political matters. This is human decency.

Well, you’re expecting it, but it’s manipulation, right? So you’ve been hiding. We got to move you back out there. Here’s a great opportunity.

Why don’t you get up? Here’s, I want you to listen closely to what she says. Through our office of neighborhood and community safety, that we will have robust wraparound services for this community and for the families to continue to move forward as we all try to navigate this unfortunate loss. So again, I’m a pundit now. So, and a former chief and a former chief. But from my perspective, these are, these are the things.

And let me be, let me be completely transparent. Todd Bettison is a friend of mine. He’s a mentee.

He’s somebody that, you know, I watched the same through the department ranks. So I’m not saying anything that I wouldn’t say to him if asked for my advice, which I have not been deep. But that being said, there are a couple of things that just stuck out like a sore thumb to me that if I was advising them, they have a communications problem.

I, I find it hard to believe. And usually with young administrations, they surround themselves with people that tell them what they want to hear as opposed to what they need to hear. I know John Roach well enough that they’re not following his advice.

I guarantee you they’re not following his communication advice. You got some people that are probably in the mayor’s ear that they are not giving her the best. You know who they are too, don’t you? Um, yeah, you do.

Well, I mean, I’ve been around this business for a long time, so I know, I know the players, but with that being said, let’s, let’s, let’s get into the meat of it. Okay. If you’re doing ComStat, which this department, um, computer statistical analysis of crime.

So it is a, a, a tool. And if you’re doing it with fidelity and you get to seven complaints at one location, um, it is not if it’s when the shooting is going to happen. So if you’re doing a fidelity and you follow the process, um, if I was Todd Bedison, somebody be getting fired.

I’m wondering if Todd Bedison should be fired. Go ahead. We’ll, we’ll get to that in a minute.

And because the chief can’t be everywhere. Can’t know everything. You’re only, you’re, you’re only as effective as the team that you have in place.

That’s paying attention to those things. When I was chief, if somebody came to me and told me that I’ve had seven calls and then it to a house, to a neighborhood, this is not what are doing dope, probably sex, stripping, drinking, neighbors are complaining. So what’s some things that I would have done? Um, first of all, building safety and engineering is that house habitable.

I would venture to say, and I have not seen it, have not been there that there are probably a lot of issues that you could possibly abate it as a nuisance abatement issue. Um, secondly, if there are any narcotics activity, then you have a civil forfeiture process that if you’re working with the prosecutor, you could say, Hey, this is the situation because simple forfeiture, it’s a, um, it, it, it’s a civil process, which means the standard that you need to seize is less than that for arrest. Arrest is probable cause, um, well, let me say civil asset forfeiture is a preponderance of the evidence, which means more likely than not is some stuff going on here with drugs, alcohol, things of that nature.

So that means more likely than not, what can you do? Shutter the door. You can, you can take the property, you could seize the property because then it’s incumbent upon whoever the owner is, which again, maybe a slumlord or if it’s a person that actually occupies the home, then you, I mean, those are two different ways you can go. So there are ways that you can get to it.

Uh, again, if it has been raised to your level.

At least seven times with that shut it down. Shut it down. Okay.

Okay. Okay. So we said he buildings building violation, right? I went over there.

I’m press free. Oh, by the way, the picture in the free press is not the house. What? Okay.

Here’s what was going on over there. The windows were sealed. They have vinyl over some of them.

You can look at bars on the inside of the windows. That’s a, that’s a co violation, right? You, you can’t have people in there because if you have a fire, they can’t get out. Right? Okay.

Number two, the porch was crumbling the steps. You can’t have that, right? Okay. Three, the roof was fire damaged on the side and the shingles peeling up.

You can’t have that. So it’s not a habitable place. Okay.

The garage was collapsing. No doors. That’s a fire hazard.

That’s real easy. And I think I can’t be sure because I couldn’t get over the rotten fence. It appears to me that the power was illegally hooked up.

All of that right there. Close it. Now I looked up the owner and called the owner.

The owner is behind on his taxes, but he lives in Farmington Hills. So it’s not one Lord. Well, or he just abandoned it.

Exactly. Okay. So it’s not owner occupied.

They’re either squatters or the renting. Where’s the certificate of occupancy? All right. You don’t have that.

You could shut it down right now. Absolutely. Right now.

And I don’t know you sit there and go seven times this year, we were investigating it. Like I told this, they tried to get vice guys in there and on the third try they got in to get the right, the Warren, but you didn’t have to wait for Charlie. That’s that.

If, if, again, if you understand Comstead and you do it with fidelity, Comstead contemplates that everything is not solved by an arrest or a, a, a culminating event like a shooting. But it is foreseeable that if you have that kind of activity, you got the neighbors complaining, you keep getting these calls. That’s in the Comstead press process.

I’m pressing that deputy chief, that commander, the assistant chief who’s over criminals. Like what the hell are y’all doing? Well, wait, have you, have you contacted building safe and engineer? Have you, um, did anything to do a nuisance abatement? What, what have you done after three calls and, and, and, you know, it’s, it’s, it’s going to these are not, these are not just, you know, noise complaints where, you know, you’ve got some people playing the music too loud. Yeah.

You know, that happens in neighborhoods, but when you have a, they’re calling it a after hours joint after hours, it’s a damn house. And it happened at six or seven in the morning. I mean, yeah, the red flags.

So what do you think? Okay. Cause you go like this, you get down to the, the precinct level, right? And the commander in it, like you don’t need Comstead be telling the chief of police. We got a problem over here.

Like if I’m the chief, right. And I’ve hung out with you and been to the Comstead meetings. Uh, you get your ass reamed.

Like somebody’s, somebody’s got to go. We just had a set. What’s it called? The septuple septuple mass shooting.

It’s a mass shooting. Three dead. That’s a mass shooting.

So, um, why, why do you think, take a guess why they didn’t enact faster on this thing? I said, because there were probably police officers hanging out there or had made friends with the people in this spot. It just makes no sense that it wasn’t shut down. It’s in a residential neighborhood.

And if the things that are being posted online and some of the articles have referenced are true, the people in the neighborhood are terrified of those people down there. People talking about not walking their dogs, not letting their kids ride down the street that you live on, because there is a house of ill repute and you have to worry about the stuff your kids are seeing or what might happen to them while they’re passing. And then this whole, we had an investigation going, well, guess what this month we’ve got to see Todd Bettison’s investigations.

And I’m not impressed. And I also just with what has come out, don’t think that it took seven calls to get that remedy, especially the way that we saw after one situation with Marvin, how they ran over there on Chrysler to homeless and disabled people, like get them out of here and board up the place. And you know, why was that not the energy given to this location? Okay.

So let’s, let’s go there, which is why I’m like, all right, this is fucked up because the chief personally injected himself into lover boy, number two, Marvin Walker, and him starting to leak stuff out about his relationship, uh, uh, allegations of illegal illegality, taking the bag, all of that. Soon as that cracked open, they, they went after him, looked at everything. And within 10 days, it was shut down 10 days.

He had a crummy, just like this place. Uh, he had a crummy, um, rental. I don’t even quite know if he had the title to it, right? He had a crummy rental and within 10 days, that shit was padlocked and everybody was put out on the street.

And we had the vet on, they, they locked his medicine. Yeah. Let’s play it.

He said 16 cops here to padlock this rental property, just to show Marvin what’s what for talking to me. But the thing is they didn’t tell the people who lived here. Now this old vet you’re about to see was sleeping in his car without his Walker and his high blood pressure medication.

What a fucking mess. I came home to find this, find it all boarded up. Thank you.

Let’s see. That’s where, um, communications, uh, messaging, uh, are very important because if you’re going to put yourself out there to say what you can’t do in one place, you can’t, the two visuals don’t match. So this guy must be a former chief of police.

So again, if I were, if I were asked for my counsel, um, I would advise, uh, that you have to reconcile those kinds of things because what the public, the public appreciates, you can’t be everywhere at the same time. What they don’t appreciate is when you blow smoke up there behind as if they don’t know and don’t see the difference. It, you know, again, going back to, you know, president Trump from a comparison standpoint, it’s now the fact that you’re trying to play in my face.

That’s the part where I think from a communication standpoint, again, I, so John Roach was, uh, so my, my experience with John was when I was assistant chief under Warren Evans. Let me explain John Roach. It was the voice of the Duggan administration of the Wayne County machine and the messaging, regardless of what you think about, um, Doug and let me say this.

And Warren, Warren Evans is, was the chief of police. He is currently the CEO of Wayne County. He’s the guy that ultimately hired El Sayed and he’s a Duggan protege from the Wayne County prosecutor’s office, but it all circles around.

It all comes full circle. But I, I will say this, um, John wrote from a messaging standpoint, from a communication standpoint, uh, you could say what you want about that administration, but they were always on message. It wasn’t nobody was running out the back door when the media came.

Um, there was a calm to Doug and no matter what you hit him with now, he may have gone behind closed doors and been a complete tyrant behind closed doors. But when he stepped in front of that camera, he was composed. He kept it together.

He did not lose it. Number one. Okay.

So, but yeah. Okay. Okay.

But you know what? I’m sick of fucking messaging. We got, we got three dead and four in the house. Oh no, no message.

No, no, you were right. I got another little clip here messaging. I don’t know if that worked.

I know they, in fact, they stopped letting me know when there’s press conferences and nobody contacted me because you know what I’m going to do when they’re, you know, me, we got a history, you know, me. So I’m going to, let’s blame some media as well. This is this at the end of this press conference in the neighborhood.

Very end of it. Yeah. Okay.

And you have the media asking questions and him answering. Yeah. All right.

We now know everybody knows about Marvin’s place. Everybody knows that’s the big scandal here, right? Now we’re doing this. Listen to the questions and the answers.

Go ahead. We have a total of seven that we can link back to this incident. And I heard the mayor mentioned something along the line that was this like an after hours spot or was this like a house party or what, or is there any other information on that? I’m being told that it was an after our location.

Any other questions? Are they separate families? Um, we’re, I want to vet that out more. Um, but I do believe that some are related, but it’s just an after hours spot and it was multiple people. So everyone’s not related, but there’s a possibility that some are related.

Remember, I haven’t even been able to identify the deceased at this point. And so very, very early in the investigation. When you say after our location, what type of activity can you just elaborate a little more on that? What type of activity was taking place there? Um, allegedly, um, dancing type of activities.

Um, imagine a strip club. That’s, and I’ll leave it at that. Alrighty.

So were they told in advance, don’t ask any questions. We’re going to give three questions they weren’t even jockeying to, you know, how you hear the, Hey, and he points and there was none of that there. Like what the hell? And I get that it was early in the morning, but wake up, you got a job.

So let’s, let’s travel back to Ayanna Stanley Jones. Ayanna Stanley Jones. She was killed.

Unfortunately, 11 year old who was killed during a, uh, basically a SWAT raid looking for two homicide suspects and any film crew was in town. Absolutely. So I bring that up to, to point this out.

Um, I hate the fact that that was the precipitating event that, um, catapult me to be chief of police. But I think the reason why we got through that is because we were just honest. We effed up, we got on TV and we expressed our contrition, our empathy.

Uh, but also we own the fact that that young lady shouldn’t have died as pissed off as the city was. Um, people appreciated the fact that, man, you just told us what it was. If I could suggest anything to this administration, um, stop spending stuff and just, you know, if it’s messed up, it’s messed up.

Um, you fess up and then you try and clean up. People appreciate that. So that, so when I talk about communications, I’m not talking about from the standpoint of spinning, but people are not as, um, dumb as we try and play them.

But you are talking about space. We’re just talking about communications. And I want to talk about, you can’t do your fucking jobs that you can’t do the fucking job again.

Um, here, uh, there’s a seven, seven shots. We, we don’t know their names. We had an investigation.

We’ve been here seven times. And then the report is like you at the end there. What, what, what, what, what, what, what went on in there? Well, imagine strip club.

Any questions? Nope. Okay. That’s crazy.

It’s fucked up. It’s like, wait a minute. What are you saying? I thought I was out there.

What you’re telling me it was a strip club. So it was a strip club. There’s sex in, in the license strip clubs.

So it could be prostitution. Is there, it could be, it could be human trafficking. Like there were none of those questions, none.

And it’s like, and then you follow up, like what took you so long? Why? And nobody asked that. And I get it. You don’t want to be that reporter on this day, but it’s like, just to be clear, you had seven calls here.

People were stripping here. What was the plan? Like you said, there was an investigation. Like, why is nobody asking the fucking question? Well, listen to the chief here, because you know, they’ve got to get people in there to get a warrant, to get their eyes on shit, but you didn’t have to wait for a warrant.

You could have gone and did buildings, that stuff. I mean, you know, again, you know, Monday, Monday quarterback, I try not to do that, but there are some lessons to be learned from the department. I just pray to God that whoever the chief is, um, that they see the fault in the stars of how you handle these community situations.

Um, and you know, I mean, hell I handle press conferences as well. I know how to handle the that, you know, it’s a gifting. I don’t need, I don’t know why I got it, but I got it.

Uh, it works for me. So I’m not saying tell anybody be me, but they’re just some basic things about communicating with people that, um, you have to ask the questions. People just need to know that as chief, if you didn’t know, now, you know, what are you going to do? But are people who’s going to be held accountable? What’s what’s the word? What’s the word? I think that some people are outraged.

You know, now that we have a picture and these are not, or at least in their pictures, they don’t look like thugs because at the end of the day, you have to remember these three men were somebody’s father. They were somebody’s son. So there’s that human part of it now that you can see it, but everybody, it seems to be coming back to that.

Why did it take seven times for anything to happen? And going back to what you said, why did it take seven victims? Yeah. But going back to what you said, I’ve been asking since the beginning of all of this disaster, what does John Roach have to say about this? And why is nobody talking to him? I’m going to cut that short. No, wait, wait.

I’ve cut that short. I’m not here to talk about a communications guy. I’m not doing it.

Um, right. But again, this didn’t look good. There’s no, this is terrible.

Now, when I went out there, here’s, what’s weird. I go out there and the mourners are coming, right? You know, the balloons and the candles and, and, um, it looks like, like people that, you know, the media took pictures of them. That looks like they know about the club and stuff like that.

And, and one guy, he’s a white guy. He’s had a stringy mullet, gappy yellow teeth. And he goes, yeah, I know Marvin.

He go, him and Mary have been seeing each other a long time. And I’m like, God, what? At this thing? Yeah. I’m like, what? Oh, that’s, that’s weird.

Okay. So again, Sheffield said this a couple of weeks ago when, when a reporter caught up with her and, uh, as to this, these questions, this is currently under investigation by the office of the inspector general. And I think should let that process play out.

So really no further comment on it. I remain confident in the chief’s ability to lead our city and every major category of crime, uh, violent and non-violent continues to go down. And I think that’s what Detroiters care about.

And I think all of us, including media should allow that investigative process to play out. But personally, do you have any reaction to seeing the photographs? Calm down. No further comment in an investigative process.

And I’m going to allow that process to play out. Okay. There’s your communications.

It took him four weeks to come up with, let the investigation play out. Now the investigator general, she doesn’t know if they’re actually have an investigation going on. Cause the investigator, the inspector general doesn’t tell you we can either confirm or deny.

Right. All right. So you’re taking media reports.

I don’t know. I do know this. Maybe you do.

Um, we’re going to let it play out. I have the highest confidence. And then this happens.

Okay. So that’s, that’s when chief police is running around. Uh, doesn’t like what he’s seeing on Facebook.

Did you know that the chief of police doesn’t have a Facebook page? Yeah, I did. When I started trying to tag him. So how do you know what’s on Facebook? Cause they’re slithering.

See now with the people, you may know that you really don’t know or shouldn’t be looking at your page or starting to pop in. Sometimes it’s automatic because of the algorithm. And sometimes it’s cause they keep coming.

So Facebook is like be friends because they keep coming here. So let me say something that, so I see a lot in the comments, you know, why are you picking on this black woman? Yada, yada, yada, no black women in the opening piece. But let me say, but let me, let me, let me, but let me say this and I’ve just got to be very candid and Frank, um, black people don’t get away with what white people get away with.

We know that. That’s why we try not to do it. But let me say this because I think it’s important politically for young up and coming, um, politicals, black people have to be smarter.

We have to be cleaner. We have to conduct ourselves with a love of professionalism. Um, that this corporate, the corporate media, uh, they’re not going to scrutinize the same.

Cause I’ve heard people criticize Charlie. Well, you, you know, where was that energy with Doug? Yeah. Might.

I mean, Charlie, if you know Charlie, cause it amazes some people I’m sitting here and Charlie and I are friends because Charlie kicked my ass. Yeah. Thank you.

Um, literally it’s looking really good these days, but I thank you very much. Uh, no, no, Diddy. Um, no, but, but no, but seriously, you can, you can Google any interview I’ve ever done, no matter how adversarial it was.

And I just didn’t start doing them when I was chief of police department used me a lot as an executive, because I presented. Well, I answered the questions. I had never got pissed at the media for the question they asked me.

Um, because you have a job, you are the fourth rail and the media has a job to hold us accountable to a standard. So the mistakes that I made in my personal life that led to me leaving the police department, I had never pointed the finger at the media ever. And Charlie, when I got off that plane from San Diego, you know, Charlie was in my face.

I had every news outlet in the Metro Detroit area, following me through the airport to get to my car. And it was surreal. I, you know, I, Jay Leno did a joke about me.

I made it to the tonight show. That’s how, I mean, that’s how big the story was. And not one time have I ever blamed the media for my F up, because I think it’s important because people didn’t think I should have even left my job because of it.

I did that because if I’m fighting a controversy, that’s relative to a decision I made as chief of police, and I’m fighting for something that I believe we did correctly or incorrectly. And I’m trying to protect the institution. But when my personal life puts a tank on those men and women that put their lives on the line every day, and they got to answer questions about, you know, your chief and, and, and what he’s doing in his personal life.

Those officers don’t deserve that. They got enough on their plate, trying to get home at night to see their families to have to defend my BS. So I chose to do that because I felt that my department didn’t deserve that.

I just wrote this down. Just, you know, might as well. Do you remember Flint? Oh, yes.

And Rick Snyder’s role in that? Yes. Yeah. I donated 10 years of that story.

Okay. How about Fucano? Yes. Remember Fucano in the jail and all of that? Oh, yeah.

Okay. He’s not a black woman, if I’m not mistaken. Duggan, I got that dude, a grand jury.

All is dirt. That’s only finally coming to an end. Dana Nessel, Dana Nessel and the cover up and the obstruction of justice.

Bang. Okay. Whitmer and the, and the nursing homes.

I’m sorry. Right. How about Benson and the, and the voter rolls? Come on.

Come on. So I look, you know, if I, when, when, when you’re in the position of power, the elected position, you are the man. Yes.

Period. Yes. Whether you’re a woman or a man.

Black, white, brown, Christian, Jewish, Muslim. No, you’re, you’re, you’re the guy. So two things can be true at one time, from the standpoint of the scrutiny of a black politician versus that of a white politician.

We know there’s a disparity in the treatment, but the nuance is, is that this guy, he’s an equal opportunity. Asshole. That’s the headlight equal opportunity.

Asshole. Forgive me, Lord. Well, you know, people say to me, like, or you hear people say, I don’t see color, right? That’s bullshit.

If you don’t see color, there’s a problem with you. That’s what you want to see. You want to see the person.

Yes. Now the point is to treat the people equally. And again, I try to help people.

I don’t try to, the little guy don’t try to hurt them, but you got the big job and shit like cash, please, you know, just bum rushing a place in a lot. Like no way. Well, the homeless people.

Yeah. And it’s a much bigger issue than Charlie LaDuff because when you have a guy like Marvin Walker, um, dropping the kind of information he’s dropped in the public ether, um, Frank, Bill and Ike are paying attention. The FBI, you can’t throw something out there like that.

That’s salacious. And then just say, Oh my bad. And walk back.

Um, so that’s the danger. So you’re saying this is for real? Like, Oh, this is definitely for real from a standpoint, from an investigative standpoint, because you’ve dealt with these guys forever. Oh my God.

If you teamed up with these guys, Frank, Bill and Ike. Oh yeah. But the thing is, um, when you put out that level of, um, allegation, um, do you create a predication for an investigation? And if you understand a federal mode of investigation, number one, they will never tell you publicly they’re doing an investigation.

Um, number two, um, they start interviewing people in the immediate vicinity. This is, this is the, this is, so I’m going to give some inside baseball us attorneys across the country. The way they make their reputation is public corruption.

Number one. And then secondly, how high up the chain can they go to expose and indict on public corruption? So once that door is opened, that that’s not a Charlie LaDuff issue. This all goes back to Marvin Walker.

So if anybody wants to lay blame on, you know, how this is going and why it’s going the way it is, uh, that’s clearly a Marvin Walker’s feet because he’s the one that opened his mouth. He’s the one that engaged Dante. He’s the one that, uh, even though the suit is not filed, you don’t just put that information out there and think that you walk away from it.

So now that you’ve made that allegation, there are two things to play. Number one, um, by running his mouth, he has implicated himself in felonious activity. So my personal belief, I have no independent knowledge.

If Marvin Walker walked up to me today and smacked me in the face and said, I’m Marvin Walker, I wouldn’t know who the hell the guy is. I don’t know him. I don’t know anything about him, but from the public reports and what he has alleged, um, the media has a responsibility to vet it and to see if there’s anything to it.

Um, that’s not the media’s fault. That’s Marvin Walker’s fault. Shame on the media.

If they don’t either exonerate the mayor and say this guy, cause I mean, the, the word on the street is this is just a, but her guy that he’s not the first gentleman, you know, he’ll have no fury, like a woman’s score, but let it do get scored. I mean, they’re, they’re not much better. Uh, you can ask judges all across the country.

That’s why you have a PPO is because dudes don’t handle rejection well. Um, but all that aside, if you understand the federal nexus and how the feds move that kind of information, it, it, you know, when it’s out there in the ether, um, it is really, really something that they pay attention to. Now, can I ask this and you have the timeline as, as well, right? What medicine was doing.

Do you think chief medicine’s reaction towards, uh, to Dante Smith, you know, cuffing him in the middle of the city with his boy and taking his phone and then, uh, medicine also directly reaching out to Marvin Walker. Is that a predicate for the FBI to be looking as well from a public corruption standpoint, it could be when you take the totality of everything that’s alleged, if that were an isolated incident, um, I would say, nah, you know, it would raise a little interest. It’s a little salacious, but when you partner that with what Marvin is alleging, that’s what doesn’t pass the smell test.

When Sheffield says, let the investigation play out. Okay. Did you know better since contract comes doing a month? What? Yeah.

It comes doing a month and there’s a clause in it. If he doesn’t give notice that he’s leaving, or basically if she wants to get rid of them, I don’t want to renew your contract. If she doesn’t offer that to him, it automatically re-ups for a year.

Okay. So if you’re going to let it play out and it plays out badly, right? You got to let them go. We still got to pay them.

So like the decision should be made now. And I guess it is made now. Now that part I’m not privy to, I mean, but you, what you have described, it’s it, that’s the backdrop, uh, how they decide to handle that.

I have no idea. The city’s in turmoil. Is it not? Would you, would you say.

I would say, but I’m more concerned about this. And again, the media you’re talking about it, but it wasn’t wrapped in any of those stories in the free press or anything like, Hey, and by the way, like this is news to me, but let’s be honest. Um, the corporate media does not do news anymore.

They don’t do investigation. They report what’s already out. Yeah.

So, so you’ll have someone like Charlie that does the work and then they report on the work that’s been done by independent media. Uh, and it just regurgitate, you know, um, you know, so that’s, you know, that’s, that’s where that is, but just kind of getting back to that federal nexus piece. Um, I think that’s where, uh, you know, as a city, um, as a, as an area, um, this is not just salacious talk.

Um, we have to understand because to a person, nobody wants to see the first black female mayor of the city of Detroit taken out in her first term. Um, you know, anybody that wants that, that’s a sick individual, uh, to want, because the city has been through a hell of a lot. Um, you know, through the, you know, trial with Kwame Kilpatrick and the RICO and, you know, the bankruptcy, you know what I mean? The city has been through enough.

Um, and you know, dug and be damned. Um, and let, and let me say this for the record, a lot of the stuff that dug and cut ribbons on Kwame did. Exactly.

And I think people forget that, but also after watching Kwame, the bankruptcy being subjected to Mike Duggan for you, Mary Sheffield to have been in the background doing this bullshit that we are seeing now, that’s a problem. Yeah. We’ll say allegedly, but again, it does not look good.

And it’s like, you know, the whole, everybody’s running to the defense. Oh, black women, black women, you’re passing black women. There was a black woman and her kids sleeping on the sidewalk on Woodward.

There’s a black woman right now wondering how she’s got.
