NO BS NEWSHOUR EPISODE #441

Hey Chris! Let Me Explain Detroit

(20:24) Chris Cuomo is in Michigan to figure out what makes Detroit tick — and whether the Democrats understand the voters they’re counting on to win the Senate.

It’s a front-row seat to the political circus where race, culture, corruption and party loyalty collide- and nobody gets a free pass.

(0:06) New questions surrounding Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield’s children’s charity, donations, a marijuana grow house and tax filings.

(38:06) Senate hopefuls Abdul El-Sayed and Mike Rogers, the voters they’re courting, and the politicians who’d rather dodge Charlie’s microphone than answer a straight question.

Cuomo brings his national political perspective, but Detroit has a few lessons of its own.

(33:42) Foreign garbage is being hauled into Michigan.

The Great Lakes State isn’t somebody else’s dump, so Trump imposes a hefty tariff on Canadian trash.

Politicians, paperwork and plenty of BS.

Just another day in Michigan.

TRANSCRIPT:

Well, Mayor Mary of Detroit is starting to remind me a lot of Mayor Kwame from Detroit.

When the feds put Kwame on trial, the easiest thing to prove was Kwame stealing from a charity fund for children. He bought golf clubs. Right down the fairway.

Oh, he pampered himself at pricey salons. He even got himself a fly new Cadillac. Here you are, Miss Senefonte.

Now, Mayor Mary’s ex-lover boy. No, not that lover boy. The other lover boy.

He said Mary was doing the same thing. Stealing from her own children’s charity fund. This brother right here, if you call him, he is going to come and he’s going to come deep.

That lover boy, Marvin Walker said she’d write him a check from the charity fund for doing absolutely nothing. And then he would go to the bank and cash it and then give her the dough. Why would she cut something out of Detroit? I never heard of Detroit.

No, but even if she did, the money still went back to her. Well, now it turns out a big weed guy in the city of Detroit gave Mary over $40,000 for the charity. But that money doesn’t show up in Mary’s charity’s tax filings.

That’s how they got Capone. Marvin says that Mary really, really likes the weed. And here are the lovebirds working in Marvin’s illegal grow house up on Gratiot.

That’s what Marvin says anyway. Well, now Mayor Mary didn’t want to talk to us, but that’s okay. She can tell it to the FBI.

Man, we got Metro Detroit in the house. That doesn’t sound as cool as like Detroit in the house. You know, wait a minute.

How the fuck did you get here? What’s Chris Cuomo doing here? Asking myself the same thing. That is weird. Did Chris Cuomo just be sitting there? And that’s Skip Mongo, man.

That dude, another guy, another player. I’m going to do you later. Adolph’s brother.

Younger brother. Yeah. These guys in my book, bestseller.

I dedicated to them amongst some other people, but these people taught me the landscape. And you’re here for the landscape. That’s what you’re doing here.

Yeah. Tara Brown. Howdy.

What, what, what are you Ray Charles now? Ray Charles does country and Western. Howdy. Oh, because Beyonce.

Now you could appropriate white culture. I wanted Chris Cuomo to meet Tara Brown. Detroit meets New York.

He’s here to, I want him to stick a microphone in you. No, in fact, Ben, are you going to take maybe part of this and the interaction they’re going to have? Because it’s natural instead of running around. Yeah.

Okay. Good. But I get your shit together.

Get it right. You got the paperwork. This is Chris.

She’s on my board of directors. I call it the wrecking board. You can’t do all that, you know, as you know, dusty and that, but you can’t do it alone.

We’re very thorough and we’re head hunting, aren’t we? Yes. What are we hunting? Fraud and corruption and whatever else we find. She’s hunting for her degree.

Maybe. I think it’s amazing that a 29 year old woman would go back to school and thanks everybody. Cause this is a nice vibe.

This is okay. Yeah. Isn’t it? Yes.

I wish we could show them, but we better not. Let me do the rants, Chris, and then we’re going to get to some stuff. Okay.

As you saw Detroit mayor, Mary Sheffield is starting to remind me of disgraced former mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. We talk long hours, do we not? Yeah. Okay.

So when the feds took Kwame to trial, the easiest thing for them to prove is the paperwork, the tax exempt charity, the Kilpatrick civic fund. He used it as a personal piggy bank. It turned out that the stole more than a half million dollars from the charity that was supposed to go to kids.

Instead, Kilpatrick treated himself to golf clubs, exotic spa treatments, and a 2000 Cadillac DeVille with leather, leather seats and wood trim. I mean, that’s like Italian. That’s like Queens.

Yeah. Yeah. Your dad, your dad.

I don’t know. I don’t know that I can fault him for that. Yeah, but he took my babies.

Motherfucker. God. Okay.

But anyway, now come Sheffield, her ex lover, the second ex lover, Marvin Walker. You know what I’m saying? The second ex lover, because the first ex lover, he’s got the feds on his ass. As my audience knows anyway.

Hey, by the way, all of you people from everywhere, it’s really nice to meet you. And it’s really cool, really groovy that you’re watching and I appreciate it. I’m sorry about my mouth.

Oh, I went to vote yesterday, early voting, and I went in and then it went out and then it was a horseshoe and I went back in and asked if I could vote a second time. I like that you admitted that on national television. Yes.

The dude was cool. What’s your name? Not Chad. Uh, Cory.

Oh my God. Yeah. Well, he didn’t let him vote a second time.

He didn’t let me vote a second. Charlie just asked. It was kind of like a poll integrity check.

Oh, but I’m going to, I’ve got lists. Anyway, Mary’s ex lover, the second ex lover, Marvin Walker claims she did the same thing while acting as the city council woman. According to Marvin Sheffield, we’ll write him a check from her children’s charity.

Everybody write this down. What’s it called T? Detroit Donate Inc. Wave it around.

Could you just wave the paper? I can’t wave the nine nineties. We got nine nineties. We got nine nineties.

We do. We got nine nineties, Chris. All right.

Tell them what that is. What is that T? Well, that’s the tax return from your nonprofit. They’re give disclosures.

Yeah. So, and you have to document everything because all the gifts are not here. Right.

But the, the rules are pretty tight. And you know, the joke you made about Capone, you know, is true that the tax side of things is often very revealing. Ergo, it wasn’t a joke, was it? Uh, no, not if you have the paperwork.

It was a funny aside. Huh? Huh. Okay.

Now, uh, she give him a check, he’d cash it. And then he kicked the money back directly to her. As you heard, Marvin said, not me.

It ended up in her park pocket. Now there’s more Sheffield’s charity, which is headquartered at her father’s activity center. And who’s the president of this charity? It varies.

At one time, Mary Sheffield was the president, but they didn’t report that on the nine 90. I only found that out from the, um, corporate filing with the state of Michigan. And then, and then it became her legislative chief aid Paris pair.

Yes. Paris who listed her address as what they bought. No, she listed her address.

Oh, initially it was listed at the city County building where the city operates Mary’s office. Yeah. Oh, come on.

All right. So listen, her charity was given about 40 grand over the last six years by Stuart Carter, a big marijuana guy in the city who owns a pot shop on the East side called utopia gardens, as well as a grow operation and a processing center. And I don’t want to get racial about it, but I’m going to, he’s a tubby white guy.

You had a pot key. What the fuck? Seriously? Detroit. I’m telling you.

Okay. Now, according to his filings, wave them. I don’t have the other one, but Oh, Oh yeah.

You got that. You saw the video rewind it. I put it up there.

Ken Beck put it up to Ken Beck. Cameraman, the editor, this guy is like 18 months ahead of everybody in the country. Ken, nice work.

Local news. I’d be figuring out what the fuck you’re doing, but they don’t, they’re stupid anyway. So according to the filings with state regulators, Carter claimed to have given Sheffield’s charity, six separate donations of $5,000 each and one donation.

Oh, of $7,500. Now he wrote to the state regulators and upon receiving a recreational adult use license, I will be in a position to increase those donations substantially. You actually fucking wrote that.

He wrote that that that that’s, that’s public filings. Okay. Now we went to Carter’s job.

We called Carter. He didn’t get back to us. I don’t know why, but here’s where Mary has serious trouble.

According to federal tax law, as Chris Cuomo, some of you heard of him. Nobody’s heard of him. We’ve all heard of him.

You know what happened to him? He moved on something bad. I’m sitting here. Something definitely changed, Charlie.

Something definitely changed. I thought this was a personal friendship. No, according to.

Oh Jesus Christ. Now I’m embarrassed. Is this going to be another one of those jobby situations? Let me get through it.

Now, according to federal tax laws, my friend, Chris said, any donation made to a charity of $5,000 or more must be listed on the charity’s tax forms. It must be listed. Not the name that gets redacted, but the fact that you got five grand must be on your tax form.

Alan, I told the media, this is easy. Just do the paperwork. I told everybody 501c3, 501.

No, you know what they did? You want to know what the local papers did to me? Marvin retracted what he said to you. And I go, it’s Marvin, right? It’s fucking Marvin. There’s paperwork.

Do the work. You didn’t even get me a car home last night. We’ll go into that later.

Anyway. That is not fair, by the way. I don’t know about all the stuff you’re throwing at the audience with the paper, but that is not fair.

What he just said. Wait a minute. That’s not fair.

Excuse me. Are you going to throw the paper at me? Yeah. Oh, good.

Cause I’m drinking coffee. So let me move it. I don’t see utopia gardens.

You don’t see it. It’s not there. That’s a big freaking problem.

Now at a minimum, which I’m sure, you know, so forgive just for my own process, you do get a cure process, right? So if somebody brings up a problem in the filings, uh, there can be correctable error. They have a distinction. They draw on the law between misfeasance malfeasance misfeasance is you did the job wrong.

Malfeasance is you did it wrong on purpose. So, you know, at a minimum, they would have to correct. And I don’t, you know, obviously you’re the one digging into it, but that’s called a cure.

What? Uh, you get a cure period. So like, you know, a cure period, you call me and say, Hey man, you got this money for your charity. And it’s not here, but I see that you were given it.

It can be a, Oh, Charlie, thank you. Thank you. You’re welcome.

And, uh, we will put that on immediately because the money went to the kids. No, that is one Avenue here. He’s a lawyer, by the way.

Are you actually a lawyer? Did you pass the bar? I did. Well, you don’t have to be well, else I didn’t pass his, but I did, but thank you for putting me on the spot. He’s a doctorate.

Cause you know, I was going to say yes anyway. But the funny thing about cure is in Michigan, we pay the highest auto insurance. You like this? You like this? That was a good segue.

Thank you. We pay the highest auto insurance and we shouldn’t. And you ought to look into cure where the auto insurance, um, how do I, how do I find them? Uh, cure.com. Why pay more? Okay.

Thank you. Now, now Marvin says, Mary, really, what are you doing? She’s doing your work right now is what she’s doing. She’s doing the paperwork.

You keep telling everybody. I do not trifle with fucking dopes. This woman right here, you’re taking stuff that she spent how many hours doing throwing it out of order all over the place.

No, no, no. The staple part we’re going to use this other stuff that’s to do away. And if you need more, I got some.

So you’ve learned that whatever you give him can wind up being destroyed. Especially if he gets mad, it’s going to hit the TV. Now, did you guys see that photograph that Marvin gave me? The one he claims that it’s him and Mary in the group.

Oh God. Oh God. He claims she’s a private investor.

Uh, you can go to, uh, there’s a website state Lara, right? Uh, who’s got a license for weed, right? That address don’t have no license for weed. And I take it from me. The feds know this.

Okay. Now that’s what Marvin claims. Anyway, roll it up there, man.

I got to get through this shit. Okay. Now Sheffield’s camp has nothing to say to us and that’s okay.

She can tell it to the FBI, but Chris, she better tell the truth to the FBI. Yes. Because you can lie to the police in most circumstances, they’d have to find that you were, um, obstructing, um, but federal on their three Oh two, which is their documentation of an interview.

If you lie, it’s a crime five years. Uh, depends on their desire to prosecute. The statute goes that high.

Ooh, just ask Kwame. He’s telling you now two names you would have never thought you would stay, say in the same sentence. Uh, but ever since the Snoop turn, Martha Stewart is often mentioned with hip hoppers.

Yeah. How the fuck did Martha Stewart go to prison lying to the FBI? Martha Stewart went to prison. You are correct for that reason.

But why did she go? Because when the feds came to her to do her a favor as a somebody, she kicked them out, not figuratively, literally. And she basically forced them, dared them to make a case. And then they wound up getting her administrative assistance.

I covered the trial to say what had happened with the transactions with the, uh, corporate head of the company, the biotech company that she had had shares in. And, but she forced them, Charlie, if she had done what you’re supposed to do, which is the feds want to talk to you and you hire someone like me to go talk to them for you. And then you understand where you are and what your options are.

Did not happen that way. So they made the case. So she should have just, you know, I covered the Michael Jackson, you know, I’m not, I’m not saying it, you know, I, she should have done this.

So she could get away with a federal crime. That’s not what I’m saying. But if, if you tell the feds come get me, you know, remember the old, uh, Russian propagandist who said, show me the man, I’ll find you the crime.

You’re asking for an organization that has unimaginable resources and like a 97% success rate. Yes. Did you cover Michael Jackson’s trial? Uh, one of them.

Yeah. I covered the one, uh, in California. The most interesting thing about that case was they actually found Michael Jackson’s original nose.

Yeah. You know where they found it? Yeah. I knew it was coming.

Do you know where they got me? Like three times Michael Jackson’s original notes. He’s he said, McCauley Culkin’s ass. That’s where he said, not too soon for a defamation suit.

Uh, but I’ll just quickly remind him. Here’s a guest, not my show, not my reporting, not my editorial opinion. This is the no bullshit news.

Cause you never got your ass roasted in the New York post. We have terrible when you’re in the New York post. We’re saying I never have.

You go to work like this. I wish that were true. When people look at you on the train like this, man, they took God, they, they posted odds that I was going to get fired.

Oh my God. I was like, I’m out in LA working for the times. Like led up three to one.

I’m like, what the fuck? I would have loved to have some odds for me. It’s just like a given. Apparently I would have loved to have some odds.

I would have loved to have a chance. Yeah. Well, you know, dude, you’re the only guy left standing.

Hmm. Sitting now, look how it works in this place. TV is shit.

See it done. You’re the only guy standing. Thank you.

Let me get to the rest of this. Okay. Now people close to Sheffield.

I’m winking over there. I’m not saying no, but people close to Sheffield are already talking to special agents, right? Do you see that? They are. Hey, you went over my words.

Oh, you didn’t. They’re already talking and you don’t have to send Marvin to the bank. Madam mayor, you can take that directly from me.

Now, Chris, what are you in town for? Um, I’ll tell you what, the reason I’m here now is different than why I came. Oh, I came because I saw Michigan as a metaphor, uh, on two levels. One, if the Democrats don’t win here, how can all of the, the assumptions about what will happen in the midterms be true? And then I realized that’s not really fair because L side has an aspect of his profile that no other Democrat has in any of these close races, which isn’t as simple as his faith.

It’s not even as simple as the Islamophobia. It’s that he is presenting a proposition to voters. That is an extreme culture war angle that none of the other candidates have not even Tallarico with this bullshit, tell a Frico stuff that they say about him in Texas.

Um, yes. So really, is it fair to the Democrats to say, well, if this guy doesn’t win, then all of your candidates must be doomed. I don’t think that’s fair, but why I’m here now is you said to me, you know, that this idea that black voters will vote for L side because he’s Brown is not just racist, but it’s stupid and ignorant of the culture dynamic here.

And I said, Oh, well then I checked both of those boxes. So now I am here to have a better appreciation for why this all important Metro area in and around Detroit, which is all you guys know is home to the largest percentage of black voters in the country as a function of a municipality. Do they come out if they come out for what and what percentage of that vote goes to L side? He has to do two years to check two boxes, get people to come out.

Right. And to get those who come out to come out for him in the right percentage that Democrats usually get. Otherwise in a race that can come down to a few thousand votes, that could be it.

The Jewish vote could be something. When’s the last time you said that in an election, but 100,000 voters, if they don’t come out because they just can’t make this choice, even if they’re a Democrat or they do come out and can’t vote for L side, that could make a difference. So that’s why I’m here now to get a feel for it.

So here she is. That makes sense. Detroiter black woman go.

Does that make sense? By the way, what I’m saying, it does make sense, but I think black, the black vote is more nuanced than people think. It’s just the democratic party sends up this candidate and we’re all supposed to be like, yay. I’m not yaying for L side yet, but I’m also not yaying for Mike Rogers.

First time we mentioned Mike Rogers name, by the way, I feel like either one of them, I’m not in such a great position. We get a lot of performance. We get a lot of optics.

And the only time any of these parties really recognize us is that election time. You don’t vote for my interest. You don’t push my interest.

And then you come back to town and people celebrate. Yay. Yay.

Yay. And a lot of the voting sometimes is because there’s like a hierarchy and my poor black ass wants to get next to maybe some of the elitist downtown that I see taking pictures. So if the right person says vote L side yet, because he does this, this, and this, that becomes my talking point without even looking.

And then now I take that back to my neighborhood and maybe my neighbor likes Mike Rogers and the neighbor on the other side is undecided. And now we’re bickering about shit that I mean, it matters, but it doesn’t matter because again, for me, I don’t feel like I’m any better or worse off with either one of them. Now watch this.

Uh, basically Detroit looks like that, right? Uh, can, can you, okay. Uh, that’s basically the geographical, how it looks kind of right. It actually looks like the old English D excuse my nails.

I actually fucking work for a living. Okay. So it looks like an this is what it used to look like.

Congressional state, uh, political districts like this, something like this, see it. That’s how it used to be. Then the Democrats, the white ones from the suburbs, they’re saying what you said, we did.

They called it a wasted boat. They actually called the black boat, a wasted boat. Cause it was 95% Democrat.

And they’re like, why would we give them their own districts? Why don’t we do this? This is what they did. And it was ruled unconstitutional. Here’s what they did.

Hold on a second. The seven districts, they went like that. They took Detroit and they turned it into a pie and they stretched it into the suburbs so they can get the democratic votes.

And then you got like Mallory McMurder, Mallory Murrow, right? It’s unconscionable. You don’t, you never been to Detroit. They representing Detroit, but you’ve never been to Detroit.

It was unconstitutional. This is what she’s saying. This dude, take this, put that in your pocket.

When we go around today, thanks Charlie. No, what the fuck they’re doing to us because no one ever heard of L Sayed. I’ll say that is how he pronounces his name.

No one ever heard of him. He’s a creation of the machine. The one we just talked about, the corruption, that’s exactly what he is.

And so is Jocelyn Benson. And that’s what I’m saying. Like the Democrat, the Democratic party, it seems builds these candidates from obscurity and then hands them to us.

Now you black people go vote for them. Jocelyn Benson is not from Michigan. Yeah.

The cultural overlay. Eli Sabat is not from Michigan. They’re importing fucking people here.

Mallory McMurder is not from Michigan. Like we’re dupes. You don’t know us.

You don’t know how to get to the gas station. They, hi, I’m here. High-speed rail, high-speed fucking rail.

Are you out of your mind? We’ve been hearing about this. Our power bills are going to the roof. Go ahead, brother.

The cultural overlay of that. It’s not as simple. No one says Muslim here.

They say Arab in terms of, I’m just going to say it. What happens? I don’t, but most people say Arab. It’s, it’s not a put down.

It’s just, that’s, that’s how it’s said here. Am I right? Sometimes. Yeah.

I noticed the older people. Yeah. But that there’s a culture distinction that like the idea that well, if the skin color is similar, then there’s an affinity.

But it’s not. And I think sometimes black people, we feel that way because we are from the same countries and things like that. But a lot of times assimilation isn’t towards black people.

It’s more towards white people. Like the goal is I came here from a middle Eastern country. Let me go grab a white girl, marry her.

We moved to Bloomfield and we’re living the life. And it’s, and the crazy part is I don’t necessarily know that I experienced. Cause I, you know, it was something that I used to notice a lot when I was younger.

I try to stay out of a lot of these gas stations and there’s nothing for me at some of these liquor stores, but it is this, we feel neighborly with some. And then some of, some of the middle Eastern people, there’s this combative, you know, it almost seems like you’ve come here and now you think you’re better than me. And quiet as it’s kept the same people that hate me, hate you more.

And they call me nigga, but they call you a sand nigga. So like, and yeah, when we get into it, you niggas, you sand niggas. So, I mean, that’s kind of what it is.

It’s not like that brotherhood. I feel like, you know, yeah, we have Arab people or middle Eastern people that we get along with. And some of them we really fuck with and we love them.

And then we have some of the other ones that it’s more important for me to step on y’all and fuck you. And we don’t fuck with them like that. You hear this? This is the, and I don’t speak for all black people in Detroit.

I’m just from here. You got white and black, right? Ooh, babe. Oh my God.

Wow. And then you got, you got Arab and black and you got black and white and, and Arab and white. And it’s just the thing I can’t explain.

I got that. Your opinion is your opinion, but what you’re telling me is be careful about just checking a box. Like that Brown is Brown.

It’s more complicated than that and you know, what bothers me is I think about kids getting sexually assaulted at that juvenile facility and healthcare issues and things like that. And now there’s a part of my community that has completely gotten amnesia and those things are okay because the elitist are pushing El Sayed in my face and he’s breading the community with money to get people to come out and vote or to tell somebody else to tell me to vote. And I respect that.

I got to throw this in something smart. Arabs, according to the United States government, the census are white. They are.

Why? Why are they white? Because in the twenties, we had a restrictive immigration policy that you couldn’t be Asian. No Asians allowed. So the Arabs and the Armenians sued and said, I’m white.

So now you don’t want to be white. Hmm. Interesting.

What’s more powerful. What you’re giving me as a dynamic or but Trump, but Trump, you know, as I, you know, I hear all your grievances. I hear all your, uh, facts, nuance culture, but Trump, but Trump for me, it’s not that simple.

I am not subscribing to a lot of his policies. Um, I would say the moral majority of them, I don’t necessarily like, but Trump is not running Michigan. We still have rights and things that we can do here.

And I think people point a lot at Trump. Why are we not pointing at our governor? Why are we not pointing at the people right here on the local level that are creating some of these problems that we are pointing at Trump? Trump is cutting the funding to my way of thinking with some of the stuff I’ve seen Trump cutting the funding doesn’t necessarily affect me because what I see is the very same people telling me to vote for L SIA are doing shit with the money that we already have. And maybe if you’d stop doing what you’re doing with it, even with Trump cutting it, we could still survive another fact.

That’s not always, I got to throw in some facts. He’s not cutting funding. What he’s doing.

Remember, remember COVID everybody member COVID we jacked up food stamps, Medicaid, and everybody voted Democrats and Republicans in 2025. It goes back to the regular level of funding. That’s all.

This isn’t about throwing poor people over, over the, over the overboard. It’s not, we can’t afford to do what we did. We’re going back to get off your ass and go to work.

That’s a Democrat. I’m sorry. Aren’t you right? Remember what you’re a Democrat? No.

Well, you were only when your father was Mario Cuomo. Oh me. Yes.

He was may rest in peace. Um, I never got to vote for my father. Um, well that’s not true.

I got to vote for him once, uh, in 1994.

The only race that he lost while I was alive. But if my brother, if my brother, if my brother wasn’t in a primary, I’ve never been a party member because, and I have it on my phone, I think Ben found it, my producer, my first TV appearance ever. I was on TV talking about a think tank that I was part of, about basically doing policy and getting away from parties, that the parties were killing us.

I’ve always felt that. My father felt that, that the labels, the parties, the clubs, it’s all instruments and tools of division. And so I have been an independent politically.

I love seeing it come around and being in vogue. I just believe that the country has to have your spirit of antagonism to toxic norms. And there has to be big systemic changes.

My new hope is what we just saw in Serbia, which whoever thought you would say this, that what we just saw there can happen here where you get an organic movement of people who say, Hey, I’m not saying me. I’m not the one don’t put me in. In fact, I’ll sign up that I can’t run.

I don’t know what I’m doing, but I want people who know things in government and I want you out of government. And they just won and got rid of a strong man that had Putin’s backing. We need that here.

We need like a big constitutional convention and populist movement here. I’m here for that. That would be great for us.

You can cut all that out. No, that’s good. Okay.

Here’s the thing. My friend Bernie over here, XG service group. By the way, you got the camera fixed brother, man.

You’re like Johnny on a spot. Bernie called me up. Bernie lives in Western Southern Wayne County where they dump on us.

Remember Palestine? They took that shit and brought it to us because our dumpage fee is so low and we can’t. Because of the interstate commerce clause, we can’t tax people more or Canada. The only Congress can do it.

And Bernie said, come over to my house and watch all the Canadian garbage trucks from Toronto line up and dump. We live on a sponge. We’re Michigan.

We get the great lakes and you’re putting Canada’s shit in our backyard. I said, I want to stop because Bernie wants to stop, right? No Democrat would speak on it. This is an environmental, a real one, not windmills, right? Not solar panels, like toxic fucking waste in our, our home.

We wanted more. So we did this and here’s what happened here up in Canada. How are things there? Nice clean.

Yeah. No garbage. Dude, how much the Canadian garbage do we get? Oh, I get tons and tons.

What’s with all these fucking Canadians? Because our country is being sold out and black people and white people did this shit. There’s Canada and Canada is sitting all over us. Back to Canada.

It’s Charlie LaDuff, Tariff Guy. I’m here at a gigantic dump in Wayne County. All day long.

The truck’s going back and forth from Canada. What are they bringing? Cars? No. Wheat? No.

Bread? Dairy? Milk? No. They’re bringing garbage. It’s considered a commodity.

You know how much they bring to Michigan every year? 3.2 million tons. You know how much that is? Enough to fill the Empire State Building twice every year. Why are we getting dumped on? Because they like to take it, I guess.

I don’t know. It has to do with the money. Now Canada doesn’t want to bury its own highways in baby diapers.

So we get it. It’s half the price in Michigan than it is in Ontario. And we can’t stop it because that’s in the Constitution.

International Trade Commerce Clause. The only way to get Canada to stop dumping on us is tariffs. How about it, Mr. President? How about a tariff on all this Canadian garbage? Look at it! Come on! Hey, look at you! What’s going on, man? How would you do in hauling trash? Yeah.

From Canada? Yes, from Canada. How come Canada brings all their shit over here? Yeah, because I’m a driver, companies send me there. I know, but why didn’t Canada keep its own garbage? Yeah, because there’s so many landfills.

Here? I don’t know why they are coming here. F***ing Canada, man. So what did you have in the back there? A Taron Asher’s career? I’m going to Canada.

Back in Canada? Yeah. Come bring me all of Canada’s shit and I’ll see you Monday. Okay, bye-bye.

Okay, get your ass back in Canada! Get out of here! Now, the President of the United States just a few days ago has announced there will be a 50% tariff on that garbage, making it non-cost effective to dump on us. I am for that. And it was Mike Rogers who picked up on it.

Good for him. Nobody who’s leaving would talk to me about it. We got that done, dude.

No f***ing way. And it helps New York, also a border state. I’m sorry.

That’s… What are you apologizing for? I’m not f***ing apologizing. Bernie, are you happy? He’s f***ing very happy. They wouldn’t talk to us.

And you know what else? They wouldn’t talk to us in the spin room. Want to see it? Is that you with the spatula? What’s that called? A slotted spoon. Is that your microphone? By the way, that video was by Ken Beck as well.

This next one video is by Ken Beck. Ken Beck and I show up in the spin room. By the way, I’ve been covering Wayne County since 2008.

When Syed was still in college and Rogers was up there in Capitol Hill voting for the Iraq war and the Iran war. Not the Iran war, but anyway. So you would think if you’re doing The Breakfast Club and you’re doing Fox and you probably want to do this show, they don’t want to touch it.

Anyway, so Ken and I, we go to the debate. And I said to Ken, I go, where’s my mic stick? Where’s my mic stick? He goes, I left it at home. You left it at f***ing home.

He hid it in the car. He didn’t want me to have my wand. Because as you know, in TV, when the guy’s talking too much, you go like this.

Nope. And Ken didn’t have my stick. And I’m like, I need my stick.

You know those little fuzzy clips? I’m like, I’m not holding a fuzzy clip. So we broke into their set. Every local TV station has a kitchen set for the morning show.

Oh, there’s a, what’s it called again? Slotted spoon. I’m just going to clip my mic to that motherf***er. Oh, that’s what it is.

You slotted spoon, bro. When he called me, he was like, I had to use a spatula. And all I kept picturing was him with a spatula.

I don’t know what the right word is, but it should be a bad word. When my boss saw Charlie’s tape of him going to Dr. Elside and Rogers. Of course, you’re such a character.

You’re such an original. But he sees that and he goes, he had me with the mic. He’s like, you got to call your friend and get him on.

And I said, because of the mic? He’s like, hilarious. You got to get it. He goes, Elside saw it too.

I’m like, I spend hours trying to find a way to connect. And this guy comes up with a kitchen utensil and now they want him on the show. The best part is it’s an upgrade from the stick that you had to use a few weeks ago.

Yeah, Ken forgot my wand again. And no, Ken and I are like, we’re buds, you know, but we get to the set and I’m like, where the f*** is my wand? I left it at home. I’m like, we’re using the stick.

We’re using some rebar. And then we use rebar and Ken kept the rebar. And we went on another shoot and he’s like, I kept the rebar.

I’m like, where’s my f***ing stick? You guys want to see it? You want to see the spinning in the spin room? Yeah, roll it. I’m being spun. Right.

And a three word statement fully doesn’t capture what we want to do. I’m not done yet. Thank you.

Thank you. Sir, you made a lot about, you made a, you made a, look at this. You made a lot about Wayne County.

I cover Wayne County. Sir, after your supposed fix, this is how it works. Made in China.

I mean, he can go ahead. I invite him to try to build it. Do you have a question? Yes.

Thank you. I’m happy to take one or two. So after you’re supposed to really impressive.

Thank you. I like your shoes too. Well, I forgot my thank you, brother.

Thank you. After the supposed fixes at the juvenile jail, the state threatened twice to shut it down twice. Two nurses are suing the County claiming that under your management, children were given expired medication.

A state investigation confirms that during and after the question is, yeah, here’s the question. How can we trust your plan to hand over Medicare for 350 million Americans? When you couldn’t provide it to 150 kids locked in a cage. So Charlie, let’s talk about this.

When I walked into the County, I saw the issues at the juvenile detention facility. They were way worse when I started. And it’s not even my area, but I understood that we needed to do something about it.

So I worked with the County executive. We declared a public health state of emergency, started to rebuild everything about the operations in that facility. And the question is not, was it perfect at the end? You’re talking about a very, very distressed facility.

The question was after the work, was it better? And we, there’s more work to be done. I would invite you to take a look at where we are now. Much better.

Oh, I know. And I was, I was the leader who was willing to step in, in very difficult circumstances and fix it. Follow up.

What about Detroit? Okay. Let’s go see Mike. Sarcasm.

It wasn’t better. Kids still got raped. They still got expired medication.

12 year olds. There’s a big lawsuit. So when you’re going to pump a commercial to me, maybe not you all, but to me, I covered that.

Shit. No, sir. No.

So you heard the answer, which is the old one was better than when I got there. That’s not an answer. Did you fix it? So why is he up in the polls? I don’t know if he’s up in the polls.

It depends on who you ask. Well, because you guys, no offense. I don’t mean it this way, you know, but you’re there.

It’s good for my ratings. You, this guy did every fucking program, meet the press Fox and he do yours. No, he won’t come on.

He won’t come on. You know why? Too tall. Yeah, too, too, too good looking motherfucking.

I don’t, I don’t know why, but when I talked to his press office about it, I said, look, you tell Charlie what you think about this. I have the actual text thread. Okay.

I said, look, I’ve been asking for months. Okay. In our business, if I’m talking about you, it’s not going to be as good for you.

If I’m talking to you, right. Just makes common sense. So I say, look, I’ve been asking, don’t get upset now.

If you see me with Rogers or you don’t like the coverage and they say, oh, well, you know, it’s tight window. I said, but I’ve been asking for months. Now you get what you get.

They say, did you just threaten us? What? And I say, wait, did I? And I look at, and I’m like, wait, no, I’m not the crazy one. I said, no, you’re saying I can’t have an interview. It’s going to change the nature of the coverage.

And you’re accusing a veteran journalist of threatening you because you’re bullshit about your availability. I said, thank you for giving me my first piece of reporting about the state of your campaign. And then they tried to call me, but it’s too late.

But I think that this is a feature of the campaign. They got to be careful about because as much as I’m benefiting from understanding the context and I appreciate it. I really do.

Charlie, you’ve been so good to interrogate that. And thank you. And thank you.

But he should win. MAGA has been uniquely under effective. Midterms, a referendum on the people in power.

They should lose. They should lose. They always in Michigan with the economic distress that you have going on here on their watch.

It was worse than Biden, brother. He is making it harder for himself to win. In my opinion, I think he is a very polished candidate.

I think he’s a much better candidate in terms of charisma and a lot of the telegenic things than Mike Rogers. But the extreme cultural overlay of where he is on Israel and whether it’s the Islamism and this every time you ask me a tough question, you’re victimizing me. Yes, that I don’t like that.

That is not a good look for I’m going to fight, right? Because that’s his postures. I’m going to fight. No, I’m not one of these soft Democrats that MAGA is going to push around.

Not me. I’m tough. I can bench press.

I’ll tackle you, you know, all that stuff, which I think is working for him. But then you say you’re getting threatened because I’m asking you for an interview. Right.

And I’m telling you, if I don’t have an interview, it’s not going to go as well. I guarantee you, you guys are talking about me on this show. It’s not going to go as well for me as if I’m sitting in this chair right now to defend myself.

But that’s the way they play it. And I don’t know that it helps them. I don’t know that.

It does not because I would rather him have been like, well, Charlie, here are the facts. I would have liked to see some some sparring there and some pushback. But there’s this cockiness.

And if you call me out, it’s racism. And yes, race plays a big part of a lot of shit. But this right here that we’re looking at, that’s not racism.

That’s calling you on the carpet about the shit you’ve done. And now there’s this thing. And I don’t see a lot of candidates do it.

Everybody messes up. There’s some shit that all of us have done that we don’t like. And if it gets regurgitated, we don’t want to hear it.

It makes us uncomfortable. But I think part of what you have mastered and we talked about this when they come with the shit about you, you’re like, OK, so what? That’s the worst you can say about me. But I have these documents.

And this is why, like he points out, the shit that people say about him is the reason that people feel close to him. And they talk to him because you just a regular ass motherfucker. Why is this about me? I’m just saying your PR spin.

And just the way you know, I wouldn’t say it’s a PR. You call me. I’ll just say it.

OK, but again, you know, you own that shit and you push back on it. Yes, some mistakes were made at the county. But then you give the spin about.

But this is what we did. And it was better when we left. Next question is not all this.

Well, you’re threatening me and I’m not going to talk to you. Nobody asked him the tough questions. Here’s the other thing.

Yes. And yes, we just talk about this guy. We’re not even talking about Mike Rogers, who has a fucking lifetime and he has a resume.

Like if you don’t like ice, Mike Rogers worked for the FBI, so he’s going to be able to maybe understand a federal police force, right? OK, all right. But he’s carrying he’s carrying MAGA. That’s what Mike Rogers is.

That’s what he represents in the election. Everybody knows that he was in Florida. Everybody knows he’s you know, he’s passed his due date.

All of that is nobody talks about that enough either. Where the hell do you live, sir? And why did you end up there when you were in Michigan politics? Now you’ve gone there and you want to come back. Explain that to us and make it plain.

And I think the conversation that people are not having in public. I was shocked. It is a lot of black Detroiters that are like Mike Rogers.

And there are some that I know for a fact are silent. And they’re like, I would vote for Mike Rogers, but I’m not going to say that out loud. Interesting.

Just like the John James conversation. Nobody liked John James. Black people did not like him.

As soon as he got the nomination, Michigan needs a black governor. I’m voting for John James. And again, we can’t play politics like that.

Let’s vote for the issues. Nobody does that. I had a senator say on live TV, you want to know where we are now? I’m not Charlie.

Like, I don’t have the cleverness. I don’t have that ability to get you into a place that you didn’t know you were going to wind up. You know, I’m much more like, you know, simple, you know, and uninteresting.

Frankly, I’d rather watch his stuff. Also, you know, I love what you guys do because I love the persona. But he says on live TV.

OK, and he meant it. I’m saying, hey, I said, would you take the plane? Would you put your sons in business with defense contracts? You’re OK with that? Mr. Corruption, Mr. Hunter Biden. He says, no, I’m not OK with it.

I wouldn’t take it. I wouldn’t let my sons do it, comma. But, Chris, this is a team sport and you’re looking into it.

He’s looking into it. I don’t look into it. I have limited resources.

I said, but you care about Hunter Biden. You don’t care about this. He goes, you don’t go after your own team.

He said it straight face, honest on live national television. He was a Republican, right? Yeah. And that’s Ron Johnson in Wisconsin.

Democrat. He said it right out loud. No shame.

Well, that’s what Ronald Reagan said. No cleanup. Nobody said, hey, Mike, you took him out of.

He didn’t mean it like that. Ron didn’t mean it like that. He meant it exactly like that.

And that’s the answer. You vote for your own. And I don’t know that it’s getting us to a better place, but it’s definitely the state of play.

But here’s the other thing, too. I think that’s the playbook that Democrats are trying to use now. Vote blue, no matter who.

But then just a couple of years ago, El-Sayed is telling us we are uncommitted. Yeah. When a black woman was standing there, we are uncommitted.

Democrats do not get behind black people the way that they fucking should. And just like Garland Gilchrist, I’d be out there marching in the street to make him governor. If when Gretchen Whitmer stabbed him in the back, he’d have been like, fuck you, hoes.

And this is what I’m doing. And blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And that’s some bullshit.

And I campaign for you. If he’d have put a little funk on it, I’d have been like, here, instead of having one $5 bill, you can have two. But it was just like, I’m gonna go where they tell me.

And you’re walking around with this look on your face. And we know it’s fucked up. We know it’s foul.

Black people have been through this. We remember when you came to Wayne County and was like, vote for this bitch. But again, it’s like she stabbed him in the back.

We’re all standing around waiting for the next move because we right there with you. And the next move was, I guess I’ll be the Secretary of State. Again, I used to be, I worked for the Democratic legislative policy staff.

I was all about that shit when I was younger. But as I got older, I’m like, we ain’t doing much better than we were doing before. And unpopular opinion.

I love black. I love, and see, I said it out loud. I love Barack Obama.

But I have to check myself sometimes like, shit, do you love him because of the shit he did? Or do you love him because he’s just that black guy and he’s likable and you just like him like that? Because again, nobody has brought out black people. And I’ll say this and maybe I’m wrong. I don’t feel like anybody has brought out black people the way Barack Obama did.

And the Democrats, I feel like are looking for that thunder again. But until you get another candidate like Barack Obama, you are not going to get. I literally came home the night before election and was like, I got to get to bed at six o’clock because I have to be at work.

But at five o’clock, I’m going to be out there in line when they open those polls. I kid you not. I get up at five o’clock.

I got the music playing. Steve Harvey is playing. Ain’t no stopping us now.

I’m for it. I done packed lunch. I’m telling my boss, I’m going to be late.

I get there and there is a line all the way into the street. Black people have wrapped around this school at 5 a.m. I’m thinking I’m going to be maybe number three, number five. I’d like number 50 to vote for Barack Obama.

If I might, if I might, this is a little cultural location. It was so bad in the United States that a white guy got up and went, I’m going to vote for the black guy. And it was so bad in Detroit that the black guy woke up and go, I’m going to vote for the white guy.

And then when it was all said and done, nothing got better. Nothing. Nothing got better, man.

Now, to be fair, I like to be even Steven So that was L said, I’ll say in the spin room, Mike Rogers. Here’s the Mike Rogers question. Here we go.

Right. Okay. Let’s go see Mike.

And I didn’t like this. That’s that’s not a scrum. Come on.

Just let us yell questions. We have all of these Democrats now coming out saying I can’t support them. That’s how we’re going to come.

Hey, Mike, Mike, real quick. Hey, Mike, even said, even said, gave me a question. Hey, Mike, Mike, even said, gave me it.

Hey, Mike, I got a question about Iraq and Iran. This is a minute. Hey, Mike, you got a sec.

Yeah. Okay. You know, I can follow.

So, Mike, you voted for the invasion of Iraq, but you did this despite a coherent policy. Hey, wow. Look at that.

Even Abdul gave me one. Oh, Mike, you screwed up, dude. No way.

I don’t know. No way. I don’t.

That’s not the deal. You don’t get in with them and then speak your own mind. I don’t know because.

Who hasn’t done that? The guy not answering any questions. Well, okay, fair. I don’t know.

Fair. But who has Trump put a hand on their shoulder? It’s not a proposition for me. Because, you know, people will say, well, Marjorie Taylor Greene.

No, she wasn’t Trump’s person. Initially, she then got in and played the mascot game and got some shine on her until she decided to live a different way. Fine.

Everybody has their own choice. But if Mike Rogers wins, there is no reason to believe you don’t just get whatever the mascot is. All of a sudden he gives a fuck about us in Michigan.

Get the fuck out of here. I mean, and by the way, Ken, this is bullshit. Stop with the, what would you call the effects? I know what you’re doing.

I see what you did there. You, sir, are using an effect to make my hair look thinning in the back. You’re putting a bald spot on there that’s not there.

The monkey’s ass. I didn’t like either one of those. And Mike Rogers running away because that’s what it was.

And his person is, he’s not taking any questions. Well, why the fuck not? You hear what she said? We got a victory party to go to. Yeah, we got a victory party to go to.

Later I yelled, you didn’t win yet. Yeah. What are you talking about? That’s what I’m wondering.

Like where, I thought they were going to somebody else’s victory party. Cause I know the shit, right? We saw right here is not the victory party. This is a unique Democrat debacle in a way.

They should win. If this is a referendum on the administration and the state of play in the country, MAGA should lose. But you now have Mike Rogers whose play is, I hope he gets beaten by his own.

So that I can win, which it should be the reverse, which is the Democrat is just saying, look, you can say whatever you want about me. Charlie may be nailing me every time I see him in public, but I’m not them. And they have to lose.

So that’s why I moved off my Michigan is metaphor because yes, all of the issues in our politics right now are playing out in this race, the good ones and the bad ones. But L side is not who the Democrats are in all the other races, not in Maine. You know, the ones that we’re looking to for the Senate, cause they’re just assuming the house goes into truth.

It’s too hard to track house races. You know, they’re just, they’re too, they’re too particular and organic on the Senate side. Maine, that’s not an L side proposition.

The Democrats fucked that up in a different way. Okay. Ohio, Sherrod Brown is not him.

In Alaska, the problem they have there is with the incumbency effect in the two names. I don’t know that that racism is play as much as they say in South Carolina, the Democrat running against, um, the Senate, Lindsey Graham sister, Darlene is very, is a competent candidate. And then there’s Tallarico whose ideas about Israel are not materially different than L sides.

He articulates it differently and nobody is chasing him on that issue because he’s not a Muslim. Five, six, seven, eight. What? They all fall asleep when I was talking.

Did they all fall asleep? There’s 13 people in this room. Cause I was about to smoke. How many of you are talking about Israel? There’s 13 people.

Raise your hand. I get it. Nobody.

I get it. But that’s because you don’t have the label on you of, I think in her past, she may have been messing with terrorists. I think her family may be messing with her.

If there’s something that knits Americans together and not necessarily for good reason. Okay. Cause you know, I gotta tell you as you guys, your lived experience is this every day and generation.

For me, I’m two generations in this country. Okay. And I watched them talking to L side and it reminds me of how people used to talk about my father.

Remember Mario Cuomo? Right. Not a white guy. Yeah.

He was an ethnic. Right. Chris Cuomo.

Both people. White all day. Cracker, cracker, cracker.

Mario. No, Mario was swarthy. I’m sorry.

Mario was hot. That was a slur. Shit.

So it was. And Mario. So you guys are in the mafia, right? You’re in the mafia, right? You’re not running for president because he’s mafia, right? Oh, it’s not you, but it’s your wife, right? So when I see this going after him, remember Trump, Islam hates us.

When I see that stick, it bothers me. It resonates. So I don’t like seeing them do that to L side.

Of course, no black person can like it because you’re like, I’ve seen this before. I know how this goes. And there are black Muslims.

I mean, I can’t tell you how many white guys go around black politicians and start speaking with a mild black scent thinking that they’re connecting. You know what I mean? Like, oh, she’ll like me now. Right.

I was just dropping some real science there, by the way, Charlie. After the rapture, after rapture, who takes the throne of paradise on earth? Do you know who? After the second rapture? Yes. Do you know who this is? Who will be the king of kings? Jesus.

What are we doing? What are we doing now? You know why the evangelicals are pro-Israel? Yeah. Because you know what has to happen for the second rapture for Jesus to come back? The Jews have to be in control. And I think a third of them have to die or something like that.

It’s a scripture thing for them. Can you imagine knowing that someone supports you because they need you to be in a certain position so that you can all be killed in big fashion so that the savior can come? Can you imagine if that’s what you got to sign up with as a support group? You know what I’m saying? All right. So, you know.

Hello, Huckabee. Yeah. Right.

So, you know, so that bothers me, that part of it. But I also believe that the Democrats asked for that problem with making him the candidate. And they don’t have that in any of these other races.

So I no longer think that Michigan is the metaphor. He earned it. They did not make him the candidate.

He took out their candidate. True. So, man, you got to give the man his props.

And if he’s the senator, then he’s my senator. That’s it. I want to see the numbers, because I heard a Republican say, Mike Rogers couldn’t beat Haley Stevens.

I voted for El Sayed. And then I’m going to vote for Mike Rogers later. And if you look at some of these counties.

That’s a two way game, though. But Democrats have pumped money into conservative candidates that are mucho maga. So they’re easier to beat.

But I’m looking at the Michigan map of where he’s beating Haley Stevens. And some of these counties don’t make sense. And they don’t.

And I haven’t heard anybody talk about how did he beat Haley Stevens in some of these counties? By one percent, by the way, and it was supposed to win by 10. But then it’s just like he’s the candidate.
