It’s only 50 bucks.
So why is this becoming such a big damn problem?

The fight over Jocelyn Benson’s old campaign filing fee is getting hotter.
Robert Davis alleges Benson was legally required to personally pay a $50 late filing fee — but campaign records appear to show her committee paid it instead.
Now, as questions mount over who actually wrote the check, the Secretary of State’s office says records connected to the payment are no longer available.

But there may be another copy.

Davis says Michigan Treasury records and state archival requirements could provide the paper trail — and he points to another candidate’s years-old payment that Treasury was still able to produce.

And now the stakes are getting bigger: a separate lawsuit is being filed in Macomb County seeking to keep Benson’s name off the ballot.
Forget the speeches. Forget the spin.

There’s one simple question: WHO PAID THE $50?
Produce the check.
